Monorail Opponents Lie about "Grassroots" Campaign, Fined by Ethics Commission
As reported by the Seattle Times, the anti-monorail campaign has been fined $1000 for not reporting a $61,000 donation from skyscaper mogul Martin Selig. Turns out that they waited a month to report the donation which was used to pay out of town signature gatherers, while in the meantime they held several news conferences and were quoted in the press claiming that their signatures were gathered by "hundreds" of volunteers. In fact they had been using out of town hired-hands since early June to collect most of their signatures.
In another unprecidented move, the ethics commission ordered that anti-monorail campaign treasurer Liv Finne be removed from her position due to her gross incompetence in managing money and reporting Selig's donations to the campaign in a timely fashion as dictated by city and state law.
Of course everyone knows that the 3 previous monorail campaigns all won at the ballot box after collecting 100% of their signatures through the hard work of volunteers. I guess there's just not that many people willing to donate their time to support the pet project of a millionaire.
When you go to the polls in November, remember that the monorail opposition has lied to you all along and are actually working for rich special interests and not the regular Seattle citizen that is looking for a quicker, easier way to get around Seattle.
